Toyota Land Cruiser BJ42, 1980
Toyota Land Cruiser – first model made by Toyota which was being made from 1951 to 1984. Extremely durable automobile which is still being used around the world.
Our project started in January, 2015. When we got the car, it could not move. It was staying still unused for two years at a farmer’s house in the Netherlands.
After we carried it home we planned upcoming works: at first we had to diagnose reasons of “patient’s” illness:
- Revitalize the engine;
- Do a test drive – find out about the state of transmission, brakes and suspension.
After we were done with required jobs – we drove few laps around the yard and completely disassembled the car.
It was necessary because the state of bodywork was deplorable – inappropriate supervision from previous owner and rust had done their job.
While renovating the car we had completely renewed the bodywork. We only fixed the hood and side doors, while we installed all other parts which were either new or used but in good condition. The frame of the car was redone with sandblasting and newly coated with anti-corrosive cover, reassembled the axle and brakes. We had to ship many parts from Australia since these models are still popular there and indigenous climate lets these cars to be exploited for many years. Only the engine and gearbox were untouched – they functioned immaculately.
The entire repair took 18 months. Many evenings were spent to make this project come to life.
Today this “elder” perfectly fulfills it’s purpose and function. At any time of the year the car is perfect for use and also gives the driver a great experience and emotions.
